A birthday
cake, sixteen candles and some ice cream, a few friends and
off the celebration goes
In a few days it's your birthday and you'll be sixteen. The candles,
the cake and the drinks are just sitting there as you go over the
list of people who will be coming to your sixteenth birthday celebration.
Sixteen candles are used to signify this special birthday that
marks the beginning of womanhood. Tradition has created a special
name for you called sweet sixteen. You are now allowed to date,
stay out late... essentially do what grown-ups do. You've dreamed
about this day, all the freedom you'll have and all the respect
you'll get.
Your birthday guests start to arrive and the celebration is about
to begin. Your mother light sixteen candles on your lovely cake
and you are over-joyed as your friends and family snap pictures
of you. You are asked to make a wish as the sixteen candles burn.
Your excitement grows as the audience sings happy birthday to you.
When they asked "how old are you now" you shouted sixteen
again you shouted sixteen and everyone laughed. After your wish
you breathe a sigh of relief as you slowly move towards the sixteen
candles on top of your birthday cake and blow them with a large
wind.
The audience laughed because you missed a few of your candles.
With another deep breath you blow again and yeah you've extinguished
all sixteen candles. Flashes from cameras are flashing everywhere
as everyone tries to capture this unique moment of the birthday
girl. You'll never be sixteen again so enjoy every bit of it.
As you started to remove the extinguished candles from your birthday
cake one of your high school friends said, sweet sixteen, finally
we can do everything we wanted to do because we are sixteen. You
collected the sixteen candles and put them in a cup you had nearby
to preserve your memories. You stepped outside with your best friend
and your cup of sixteen candles and off you were in deep chi-chat
about the things you'll be doing now that you are sixteen.
